Song Review and Critique: of R&B artist Rob P @RobPWorld

“Set You Free “

Creativity: Rob needs to reach a little deeper to make something that doesn't sound that run of the mill.
Hook: Pretty Catchy, I can recite it after only listening to it 3 times.
Beat: The beat is on point, Rob keeps the energy alive and matches the mid tempo track filled with chants and a sick electric guitar accompaniment.
Originality: This could have been a little more imaginative.
Lyrics: Nothing thought provoking or different than what I've heard from other R&B Artists.
Flow: The flow of the song overall was smooth, then there was a rap break, that threw off the momentum.
Recording Quality: The quality and arrangement could have been a lot better, there were very few harmonies in this particular song. The harmonies could have made this song a little less bare.
Does the song engage the listener and/or have emotional impact? Personally no.
Is the song memorable? The melody definitely is, it stays stuck in your head.
Song is decent, the artist needs a little more vocal control here, overall I would say there is extreme potential here.

"Let the Night Take Ova You"

Creativity: This track centered on the elements of night time, this was a nice theme, pretty creative here.
Hook: The hook is simple, simple is good. Simple and Catchy also very memorable.
Beat: The beat is hypnotic, and sexy, sets the stage for Rob's vocals.
Originality: Extremely he managed to put together what could be considered a foreplay track, he gets his point across without being vulgar or lewd. That is KEY in creating RnB music these days.
Lyrics: Love the style that it is written in, he got creative here and was able to play around with metaphors in relation to night time.
Flow: The flow of the song is pretty sexy, love the slow pace.
Recording Quality: I would rate the recording as 7/10 as the vocals could be a little clearer.
Does the song engage the listener and/or have emotional impact? The hook engages me more  than anything, emotionally? Not so much.
Is the song memorable? : Not as a whole, the hook sticks.

“Set The Mood Right”

Creativity: Average
Hook – Not a fan of how it's being sung. Misses the mark for me.
Beat- Slow Jam material
Originality: It's original in the sense that it doesn't get to the rated R, type material, and these days artists are trying to push the envelope in that direction, but Rob approaches it from a gentleman's role.
Lyrics: The lyrics are a little corny nothing that really stands out.
Flow – The flow seems to be a signature of the singer, stays in sexy form.
Recording Quality: 7/10
Does the song engage the listener and/or have emotional impact? It's a bedroom track so in the
Is the song memorable? No
Overall my review of the artist is that I hear potential.  He has an ear for melodies, and that is crucial in R&B.  The energy is there, with some basic vocal training to help this artist control his voice, ad libs, and range, he can excel.  The vocals sound a little bare not many harmonies are heard throughout the music.

About The Artist RobP

The mission of singer and songwriter RobP is to invite audiences into his world by way of his music. The R&B, Pop and Hip Hop artist hailing from New York is set to release his debut EP titled “Set the Mood Right” at the end of the summer. RobP. began writing songs by the time he was in middle school and drew the attention of friends when he started entering rap battles. Music was not just a hobby or past time to RobP but a true passion that he continues to goes to bed with and wake up to daily. We get Unplugg3d on Producers Corner 7/30

Rapper/Songwriter Langston “Unplugg3d” Faulk was born on May 4th, 1984 in Lafayette, Louisiana. Raised in a rough environment, Langston, at a young age, was exposed to the harsh realities of life. Being surrounded by a heavy dose of drugs, prostitution, and violence, Langston looked for various ways at getting his mind off of all the negativity that surrounded him. He joined his school’s basketball & track teams, which helped, but it did not take him to that place of personal satisfaction. At the age of 10, his teacher entered his entire class into a national poem writing contest for young Americans. To his surprise, Langston’s poem was selected as one of the winners and was published in a national book for young poets. From that moment forward, that sparked a confidence in Langston that has not been seen until now. Throughout his middle & high school years, Langston continued to write poetry, but was intrigued at the melody and rhyming pattern of various singers and rappers in the music industry. “My teenage years were very difficult for me. I did not know who I wanted to be. However, I used music as inspiration and guidance”. Langston grew fond of one artist in particular, Lil Wayne. “In my opinion, just seeing him grow from a youth to the legend he is today is very inspirational. It showed me that artist from Louisiana can do great things in the global, yet ever changing music industry.” Fast forward a decade later, Langston has graduated from college with his Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management and after many professional and personal struggles, Langston is ready to tackle, embrace and showcase what he calls his passion. “I’m ready for others to hear my story, to learn from my mistakes and create their own path.” Choosing the name “Unplugg3d” was one of the easiest decisions he’s had to make. The name Unplugg3d symbolizes silence. Langston recently said, “My whole life I’ve felt like I was talking and no one was listening. So now, I feel like it’s time for me to Unplug myself. I’ve been having the headphones to my inner thoughts on for too long. Now it’s time for me to unplug the headphones and let the world hear what I have to say.” Unplugg3d’s music has been described by numerous DJ’s, artist, and fans as smooth r & b rap. “I’m not a gangsta rapper and I am not a singer. I am that in between artist. I am like a gumbo. I mix a little bit of Lil Wayne, Trey Songz, and LL Cool J into one person,” joked Unplugg3d. Presently, Unplugg3d resides in Houston, Texas. He is currently working with various producers and artist on his second mixtape entitled “The Perception: Reloaded”. “This mixtape will define who I am as a person and as an artist. I have a grown and sexy mentality and I want to expose that to the young adults of this world.” With a determined work ethic, humble spirit and business mind frame, Unplugg3d is ready, willing and able to do great things in the music industry. He knows that it can’t be done all by himself, so he is constantly surrounding himself with individuals who bring a positive energy into his life. “The path to success is a long road. But it is not a dead end. That’s a never ending road with many pot holes but also many blessings. It’s all about learning from your struggles and counting your blessings.” So get your pop corn ready and welcome to the Grown & Sexy show. Mixtape Review: "The Murder House" from artist Sir Nasty @SIR7NASTY4 by @phoenixstar9

"The Murder House" from artist Sir Nasty

I got my hands on the newest mixtape “Murder House” from, The Mixtape Killer, Sir Nasty out of Macon, Ga. Sir Nasty and the whole Graveyard Entertainment camp have been making a lot of noise and this mixtape was like an explosion.
The intro sets the tone for the project, you get to hear how Nasty really feels about hip hop, and he stays true to his dark and raw style. On the track “Drugs” it didn’t really catch my attention too much, however, I thought it was dope how they broke down what each drug was made of, didn’t really have too much  here to pull me in. “Me vs The World” was a personal favorite, over a high energy instrumental, with several references to the WWE,WWF, etc world, which I thought was pretty creative in relation to the song. Nasty matches the beat and doesn’t let it run over him.

Nasty drops “Save My Queen” over the Kanye West “Power” instrumental, he’s created his own lane, for illustration purposes, I will call it the “I DON’T GIVE A FUCK LANE” this is a track for those that stand their ground no matter what, Public Enemy type feel.
“American Gangster” was laid back, and gives you more Sir Nasty, in terms of who he is and who he finds influential, “You want to talk logic, what do you call a black boy in the hood when he gothic, black bandanna, loud music, bumping rock shit, I know I look familiar, Tupac Bitch!” It was one of the many tracks I really enjoyed listening to. Nasty has a great flow, I have heard a lot of artists out here sounding off and their delivery being awkward but Nasty is on point.  Sir Nasty drops “I Think I Can Rap” over the Beverly Hill’s Cop themed instrumental. It wasn’t one of my favorites here, not because of Nasty, but because of the beat and what I’m used to hearing from him. Didn’t fit him to me, just sounded out of place.  “Nobody” is another track that gives you a look into what you can come to expect from Sir Nasty. The hook is easy to remember and easy to rhyme along to ” That’s that shit, and bitches love it when they hear it cause they feel it, they know, ain’t nobody else making mothaf*ckin shit like this” This one is a little mid tempo but doesn’t take away from the momentum of the mixtape It does what it set out to do make you slow down and listen.

“Words Ain’t Enough” was another stand out track, mainly because of the metaphors, for example “But they settle for Rappers with they Metaphors, playing “He Man” but they don’t wanna see the “Skeletor” , this actually showed Nasty’s versatility over this more or less east coast, NY, style instrumental. I really liked this, staying on repeat.“A Song About Weed” had me dying… he tells a tale over the Missy Elliot’s “Gossip Folks” this is a must listen.. Nasty had me replaying this one over and over. One of my favorites, you get to hear him use his storytelling skills while creatively using the gibberish portion of the hook to his advantage. A fun Friday and Saturday night track that you bump on your way out.

“Mo Murder 4 Mo Money” caught my attention because of the instrumental and I really wanted to hear what he was going to do over this one, “Pimps don’t cry, and gangsters don’t talk, bullshit fly, and money sho walk,” I think this is a nice track and true to people that have hustled, and done a few things they weren’t so proud of, “I was riding dirty, my girl got tired of it, I said I fuckin did it, never said I was proud of it.” The line that touched me the most was “Somebody gon feel me, it’s karma if a mothafucka kill me.”  No holds barred here, one of the tracks that I know 3 out of 4 Of you reading this will relate to. “Loko Colors” was what I was waiting on, this is for the folks that love Four Loko’s I was happy to hear this track, this is one of his signature songs to me. Four Loko should be paying him or handing over a lifetime supply.
“The Other Guys” was funny as hell, using the famous “Gator don’t Play No Shit” line in the hook, but it didn’t really hold my attention too much. Just a little flat didn’t match up to the rest of the mixtape. “Planet Goth” was one track that true hip hop heads like myself will enjoy, this had a lot of dope lines, “Only one real nigga wear that mask, rack em up, I’m the ball breaker, Wayne gay see, I use your body for wall paper.” “I was doing me, spiked up and skulled out, I flipped out and got it draped up and dripped out. The way these niggas dress I’m tripped out, you still look like a pussy nigga, quit poking your lips out.” This hit the nail on the head and it knocks! I had to add this one to my favorites.

This mixtape truly has something for everybody, overall it produced a lot of my new favorite songs.Sir Nasty’s delivery, flow, and lyrical content, blended with his “Horror” style made this mixtape truly what it was. It was dark in some spots but that’s what made it great. It got an A from me. I recommend this mixtape take a listen for yourself and thank me later! --- Phoenixstar9 @phoenixstar9

RICKY ROSS BIO
Donnell Ross, better known as “Freeway” Ricky Ross, is one of those rare figures whose experience as a drug trafficker has lead him to a life of rebuilding the community in which he once helped destroy. Now, with a passion for helping the youth, Ross has been given a second chance to uplift his community by giving back through mentoring and sharing his story. He plans to inspire many of today’s youths to achieve their greatest successes without following in his footsteps.
He was a key figure in filmmaker Kevin Booth’s documentary American Drug War: The Last White Hope as well as the second episode of the first season of BET’s American Gangster documentary series which focused on his story and his connection to the Iran-Contra scandal.
Recognized as a pawn in the CIA drug game, Ross was a pioneer in the crack cocaine trade in Los Angeles, as well as other parts of the U.S. A renowned drug dealer, Ross harvested millions as an unknowing participant of Central Intelligence Agency and U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency operatives, who provided him with unlimited amounts of cocaine. It was said that his suppliers used the profits to pay for the CIA-spawned Contra war against Nicaragua's leftist government in the 1980s. His connections were first revealed in a series of articles published by the San Jose Mercury News and in court testimony.
As a youth, Donnell Ross moved to South Central Los Angeles with his mother with the intent of playing tennis which he pursued a scholarship while attending high school. Unfortunately, his coach would later find out he was illiterate and removed him from the school. Ross then attended Los Angeles Trade Technical College and again pursued tennis, reaching the 3rd spot on the team. Shortly after, at the early age of 19, Ross said a teacher, who taught at a job center, turned him on to cocaine. Because he looked up to him, Ross started selling cocaine for him. The money was good so he ended up starting his own business. His operation grew and he soon became one of the biggest cocaine dealers in South Central.
During the height of his drug dealing, Ross was said to have made 2-3 million dollars a week. In 1996, he was sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of trying to purchase more than 100 kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent. Ross became the subject of controversy later that year when a series of articles by journalist Gary Webb in the San Jose Mercury News brought to light a connection between one of Ross's cocaine sources, Danilo Blandon, and the CIA as part of the Iran-Contra scandal. The decision in his case was brought to a federal court of appeals where his sentence was reduced to 20 years and then reduced further for being a model inmate. He was then moved to a halfway house in California in the spring of 2009 where he was released on September 29, 2009.

Today, Ross is a new found man. For many, having a role model only happens once or twice in a lifetime, but not for him. According to Ross, he has had numerous role models as they have changed dependent on what was going on in his life at the time. He has looked up to gangbangers as well as Arthur Ashe, but today, he is an admirer of Napoleon Hill. In all actuality, he has developed into a mentally strong individual and believes that people should, “Do things the way they want and be their own role models.”

Five years from now, he sees himself, “…on the top of the world,” as he, too, plans to be a role model.
The legacy he wants to leave behind is to be known as an inspirational mentor to people in need rather than the old “Freeway” Ricky Ross. He plans to make life better for people around him and to continue to love his family. On Saturday, November 7, 2009, society will be reintroduced to the Real “Freeway” Ricky Ross, in St. Louis, MO, by way of Manasseh Ministry’s 3rd Annual EXMAD Celebration which is designed for Ex-Offenders who are now making a difference in communities.

Justified hits the Producers Corner Monday 2/27/10

Justified is the epitome of a hip-hop artist. Embodying the essence of a true MC and lyrically inspired by what she encounters on a daily basis, Justified fervently deliverers a flow unlike any other femcee.
Born Dec. 8th, 1987 3:23pm (hence name of mixtape) to a single teen mother, after shortly being notified she was actually having twins, life began. It was obvious to see that Justified had a purpose greater than the usual. Life wasn’t easy but the entire struggle brought forth the strong individual you see today. At a young age her mother married, and afterwards, the move was made to the Southwest, MO City, TX. With a solid family unit, things progressed and prospered.
Growing up playing mostly basketball, music was not a first priority but was a distant 2nd. Being a respecter and lover of great music, the music was bound to come out sometime. That time came shortly after graduating high school and giving up basketball when “It was no longer fun”.
A new passion was ignited when she seriously began rapping in 2009 after linking up with J.I. The progress was imminent. “We were recording in a cold garage on sub-par equipment”. That only gave motivation, for Justified to go to school for audio engineering. Wanting to learn audio for herself, she enrolled in Mediatech Institute. Enrolling June 2010 and graduating June 2011, all the necessary tools were given to produce the paintings of the visions in her head. Soon the team was created and the plan to bring back high quality conscious music was put into action.
Deeming herself a “Revolutionary Visionary”; on a mission to give her audience mental food for thought. 3:23 is the perfect depiction of who Justified truly is as an artist and person. Expect nothing but the best, out of this mixtape.

Major Music Ent. Artist of the Month Boome

Free Download Skywalker Vol 1 issue 2

-BOOME-
Artist Boome locally out of Atlanta, Ga has made a name for his self specially in the city of Dallas. Headling multiple indepedent tours around the country & also opening for major acts on the way. He has opened shows for B.O.B., Devin da Dude, Big Tuck & many more....& also collaborated on songs with Lil Flip & Big Tuck. "New King On The Block" which was his nationwide album drop last year created some worthy buzz for him. With his new album "Citizen Kane" still in production set for release in April 2012, Boome has created some amazing singles. "Suicide Off The Moon", the first single would probably be considered a very powerful record by any critic, it has a dark but energetic feel to it. When asked about the direction of the new single & the album he quoted "I finally found my lane with this one, this single is actually positive it simply talks about reaching a snapping point but actually finding strength from it, have nothing to loose so going for everything. "Citizen Kane" to me is my masterpiece thats why I took my time on this one, this album will probably recreate a lot of people's direction on what quality music is. I put my self in a different mindset & try to find inspiration in hard places. I wanted to make the best album that i could possibly make, kind of like a track runner trying to run his best time. This album has been one hell of a journey for me & I enjoyed every bit of it...."Citizen Kane" in stores Spring 2012
